About 100WTS / Links

100 Ways To See… A Street is a visual arts project and an experiment in urbanism.

The plan: To experience and document the street where I live from 100 different perspectives.

The outcome: A rich visual (and occasionally aural and textual) record of a street from 100 different perspectives, which also serve as 100 different ways of mapping the street.

The intention: i) To demonstrate that even in the mundane and familiar, there is  complexity, serendipity and beauty; and ii) to develop alternative ways of mapping and representing urban complexity.

The setting: Wythe Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City.

The route: 15 blocks along Wythe Ave from Broadway to North 8th St – the route I take to the supermarket or the Bedford Ave subway station; a (seemingly) mundane, everyday sort of route.

  1. Great project. Look forward to the non-visual elements, such as soundscapes, or of geo-localising the photographs along the itinerary, or more text. Have you read Doreen Massey on space, place and time? My collaborators and I are trying to play/experiment with the photo story, a far more linear medium, : https://videos.files.wordpress.com/SEzGP4si/clovis-albert-galopin-a-narrative-of-tolerance_dvd.mp4
